  • Curious Alpaca Logo

    Creative Brief:

Once again, Chris Grant set up another entrepreneurial venture called Curious Alpaca. This is an online store that features alpaca gifts and clothing. This logo needed to appeal to kids, teenagers, and parents.

Aside from the broad audience this logo had to connect with (and generate sales from), depicting the alpaca icon in this logo was the most challenging aspect of this project. I needed to create an alpaca "personality" that would be fun enough to appeal to kids, cool enough to appeal to teens, and straightforward enough to appeal to parents. Additionally, this logo needed to display properly on a clothing tag.

    What I did:

I picked solid PMS colors that would display or reproduce perfectly on anything from a screen-printed shirt, to an embroidered clothing tag. I relied on my proficiency with drawing and generating vector art to create an alpaca that looked good in 2-D, and real enough to satisfy Kim Grant (Chris' wife), who is the farm manager with a biology education from Cornell University. The use of thin lines pulls forth a sense of delicacy, which reinforces the luxurious nature of the product sold online. The font picked is sans serif and very round, while the layout of the type is flushed left against the icon. The familiar layout brings balance between the timelessness and everlasting nature that I hope each of the logos I create will have, and the playfulness of the font and the alpaca icon. This logo was created using Adobe Illustrator.
